My Anaesthetic

Pre-Operative

Pre-Operative Visit

What happens during a Pre-Operative Visit?

This initial meeting is to establish a rapport between you and the Anaesthetist. The meeting will include a discussion of your:

  • Medical history. (Breathing problems; Heart problems; Nerve problems, e.g. Stroke; Neck or back problems; severe reflux or indigestion problems)
  • Current medication
  • Any previous adverse effects from an anaesthetic or surgery
  • Any known allergies
  • Any caps, crowns, loose teeth or dentures
  • Alcohol or smoking habits

This is an opportunity for you to be assessed in a comprehensive fashion and order further investigations if deemed necessary. There will also be an opportunity to discuss the different types of anaesthetic available and which would be most suitable for you and for the surgery you are undergoing.
